US raw steel production falls from last week
US raw steel production slipped on week but remained up from last year in the week ended 14 April, Kallanish learns from the American Iron and Steel Institute.
US raw steel production stands at 1.784 million short tons at 76.1% capability utilisation, down -1.2% from the previous week, when utilisation was 77%, but up 3.7% from the equivalent week last year, when utilisation was 73.85.
The Great Lakes led production by region with 685,000 st, followed by the South with 653,000 st and the Northeast with 213,000 st. The Midwest produced 159,000 st, while the West produced 74,000 st.
Year-to-date production stands at 26.181m st at 75.5% capability utilisation, up 1.4% from last year, when utilisation was 74.4%.
