Mexican iron ore production falls in February
Mexico saw its iron ore production reduce both month-on-month and year-on-year in February, according to local statistics institute Instituto Nacional de Estadística y Geografía (Inegi) data monitored by Kallanish.
The country`s iron ore output reached 821,540 tonnes. This volume was -2.4% down y-o-y and -14.9% less compared to the figure of 956,419t in January, but two-month production rose by 2.6% y-o-y to 1.77 million tonnes.
The state of Coahuila de Zaragoza was the main producer with an output of 287,985t in February. This was -11% lower year-on-year. Iron ore production in the Colima region fell by -15.2% y-o-y to 211,991t, while the Michoacán state output was -14.1% down on-year at 201,166t.
During February, iron ore pellet output totalled 554,287t. This volume rose by 1.1% y-o-y, but was still -4.8% less on a cumulative basis compared to the January-February 2017 period.
First grade coke production reached 95,939t in February, down by -5.7% both y-o-y and to end-February, Inegi adds.
