Competitive pig iron hampers Chinese scrap demand
Chinese steel mills in Jiangsu and Zhejiang faced stricter production restrictions last week, and power supply shortages have hit electric arc furnace steel mills more severely.
On Friday, Kallanish assessed Chinese 6mm+ heavy scrap delivered to mills in eastern China's Yangtze River Delta at CNY 3,671/tonne ($568/t) including VAT. This is CNY 10/t higher since Thursday but CNY 19/t lower compared with the previous Friday.
