Utah considers royalties on Great Salt Lake lithium
Utah regulators are hoping a new set of mineral extraction rules will help protect the Great Salt Lake’s resources.
Earlier this year, the Utah State Legislature passed a bill – HB 513 – that requires mineral extraction companies utilising the lake to pay royalties to the state. It also ensures that companies using the lake minimise water use and evaporation, with additional stipulations on water depletion.
