Rio Tinto begins pilot waste rock lithium production in California
Rio Tinto’s lithium demonstration plant in Boron, California, is up and running, Kallanish learns from a company statement.
The demonstration plant creates battery-grade lithium from waste rock, the company says. Ultimately, Rio Tinto plans to scale up the Boron plant’s production to take advantage of nearly 90 years of accumulated waste rock at the location.
