Kallanish South East Asia Steel Markets Report - Week 28 (July 11, 2022)

Read the Kallanish South East Asia Report - Week 28, published 11th June 2022. This is a weekly subscription report analysing production, flats, longs, semis, and raw materials for the region.

  • Flats: The Vietnamese hot rolled coil import market remains depressed, with market sentiment bearish. The Vietnamese domestic market for SS400 HRC has fallen below import levels in recent days.
  • Longs: The rebar import markets in Singapore and Hong Kong continue to be lacklustre. Recent regional trades for Malaysian rebar reflect its price competitiveness.
  • Semis: The Philippine billet import market was largely stable last week. However, suppliers were not successful in lifting their prices and values have fallen back.
  • Raw Materials: The Vietnamese scrap import market is quiet, demand is weak because of sluggish domestic rebar activity. A recent bulk scrap booking for HMS 1&2 50:50 from Hong Kong was ordered on 6 July at $388/t cfr Haiphong.
