Kallanish South East Asia Steel Markets Report - Week 25 (June 20, 2022)

Read the Kallanish South East Asia Report - Week 25, published 20th June 2022. This is a weekly subscription report analysing production, flats, longs, semis, and raw materials for the region. 

  • Flats: The Vietnamese hot rolled coil market continues to deteriorate. Vietnamese producer, Formosa Ha Tinh Steel has lowered the domestic price for its August shipments further. 
  • Longs: Wire rod import prices dived in Southeast Asia last week. Suppliers were not successful in hiking prices in Manila. 
  • Semis: The ASEAN billet import market is deteriorating quickly. Suppliers have been lowering offers in recent days amid rising market bearishness and a sharp slide in regional scrap prices.
  • Raw Materials: The Vietnamese scrap market has fallen sharply. Bulk scrap offers for HMS 1/2 80:20 from the EU are prevailing at $416/t cfr Vietnam, market sources say. A scrap cargo from Latvia comprising 30,000t of 80:20/shredded was recently booked at a composite price of $420/t cfr and 8,000t of Bonus grade scrap at $435/t cfr.
