Kallanish South East Asia Steel Markets Report - Week 1 (Jan. 4, 2022)

Read the Kallanish South East Asia Report - Week 1, published 4th January 2022. This is a weekly subscription report analysing production, flats, longs, semis, and raw materials for the region. 

Flats: The Vietnamese hot rolled coil import market has fallen through to the end of 2021 as certain sellers aggressively lowered prices to close deals. Buying interest is thin as market sentiment is bearish.

Longs: The East Asian rebar import market slowed down into a year-end seasonal lull. Suppliers of rebar are keeping export offers firm and some are even seeking higher prices.

Semis: ASEAN billet import markets were sluggish through late December. A Thai rebar mill booked 20,000t of Iranian 130mm 3sp billet for January/February shipment on 21 December at $610/t cif Ko Sichang.

Raw Materials: The Taiwanese scrap market has been quiet over the Christmas and New Year holiday. Kallanish assessed HMS 1&2 80:20 container scrap unchanged at $445/t cfr Taiwan.
