Kallanish South East Asia Steel Markets Report - Week 51 (Dec. 20, 2021)

Read the Kallanish South East Asia Report - Week 51, published 20th December 2021. This is a weekly subscription report analysing production, flats, longs, semis, and raw materials for the region.

Flats: Hoa Phat's latest domestic list price for its new allocations of hot rolled coil will need some discounting to attract buyers, trading sources say. The mill has set its new HRC price at $796/tonne cfr Ho Chi Minh City.

Longs: Southeast Asian import markets for wire rod and rebar are quiet. While prices have fallen, regional importers are generally inactive because of weakness in regional demand.

Semis: The billet import market has softened in East Asia during the past week on market bearishness. ASEAN importers are generally hesitant to place orders because of sluggish rebar demand.

Raw Materials: With international scrap prices declining, the Taiwanese scrap market has continued to cut import purchase prices and buying interest has dropped off.
