South East Asia Steel Markets Report - Week 39 (Sept. 29, 2021)

Read the Kallanish South East Asia Report - Week 39, published 29th September 2021. This is a weekly subscription report analysing production, flats, longs, semis, and raw materials for the region. Additionally, the production section includes brand new data series monitoring hot metal production activity in the region at the blast furnace level.

  • Production: Southeast Asia’s integrated steelmakers saw hot metal output fluctuate last week at depressed levels.
  • Flats: Vietnam’s hot rolled coil market sentiment has weakened during the past week. Transaction prices for restocking activities were lower than expected.
  • Longs: East Asian rebar import markets were inactive during the last week.
  • Semis: The Chinese billet import market has weakened. In ASEAN, the market has quietened down with lack of buying interest, as the region continues battling Covid-19.
  • Raw Materials: Taiwanese scrap prices continue to rise in anticipation of improving demand, even if shipping issues are restricting transactions.
