South East Asia Steel Markets Report - Week 37 (Sept. 15, 2021)

Read the Kallanish South East Asia Report - Week 37, published 15st September 2021. This is a weekly subscription report analysing production, flats, longs, semis, and raw materials for the region. Additionally, the production section includes brand new data series monitoring hot metal production activity in the region at the blast furnace level.

  • Production: Southeast Asian blast furnace activity held fairly steady last week with a few exceptions.
  • Flats: Vietnam’s hot rolled coil buyers have returned after Covid-19 lockdowns previously muted demand. Hoa Phat has sold out for November shipments without offering further discounts.
  • Longs: Rebar import markets in Singapore and Hong Kong have been quiet this week.
  • Semis: The Chinese billet import market was volatile during the past week. This is in tandem with the Chinese domestic market. Bids rebounded in the middle of last week after falling on 14 September.
  • Raw Materials: Taiwan's scrap prices have risen on improving demand, and import prices also rebounded.
