South East Asia Steel Markets Report - Week 33 (Aug. 18, 2021)

Read the Kallanish South East Asia Report - Week 33, published 18th August 2021. This is a weekly subscription report analysing production, flats, longs, semis, and raw materials for the region. Additionally, the production section includes brand new data series monitoring hot metal production activity in the region at the blast furnace level.

  • Production: Southeast Asian blast furnaces saw their production trends shift last week.
  • Flats: Vietnam's Formosa Ha Tinh has reduced prices for its new domestic hot rolled coil allocations for October shipment by $15/tonne.
  • Longs: The Singapore import market for rebar continues to see limited buying interest. 20,000t of Indian-origin theoretical-weight rebar was ordered in the 6 August week at $732-735/t cfr Singapore.
  • Semis: Billet suppliers are lowering export offers to Southeast Asia while the region continues to grapple with strict curbs imposed to rein in rising Covid-19 cases.
  • Raw Materials: Taiwanese scrap prices continued to fall last week. Weak local demand and price cuts by overseas suppliers undermined support for scrap prices.
