South East Asia Steel Markets Report - Week 26 (June 30, 2021)

Read the Kallanish South East Asia Report - Week 27, published 30th June 2021.  This is a weekly subscription report analysing production, flats, longs, semis, and raw materials for the region.  Additionally, the production section includes brand new data series monitoring hot metal production activity in the region at the blast furnace level.

  • Production: Southeast Asia’s restrictions on movement and industry have continued to impact blast furnace activity.
  • Flats: Chinese hot rolled coil deals are taking place without the burden of the rumoured export tax.
  • Longs: In Singapore's spot rebar market, a trader was apparently shorting the market with an indicative offer on 23 June, subject to final confirmation, for 10,000t of theoretical-weight rebar.
  • Semis: Southeast Asian mills have reduced prices to attract billet export sales.
  • Raw Materials: South Korea’s Hyundai Steel has maintained its bid price for Japanese scrap this week.
