South East Asia Steel Markets Report - Week 15 (April 29, 2021)

Read the Kallanish South East Asia Report - Week 18, published 29th April 2021.  This is a weekly subscription report analysing production, flats, longs, semis, and raw materials for the region.  Additionally, the production section includes brand new data series monitoring hot metal production activity in the region at the blast furnace level.

  • Production: Blast furnace activity across Southeast Asia was high last week. Only Formosa Ha Tinh saw a slight decline in activity last week at its BF No. 2.
  • Flats: The Vietnamese hot rolled coil import market was quiet last week with thin trading. Import offers are limited in the Vietnamese market after gaining $90/tonne since early April.
  • Longs: Long product import markets in Southeast Asia are relatively steady and firm. The absence of Chinese exports in the region continues because they are priced out of the regional market.
  • Semis: The Southeast Asian billet import market is still firm, but quiet. Russian 125mm square billet is offered at $655/tonne cfr Manila for end-June shipment.
  • Raw Materials: The ferrous scrap import market is rising once again in Vietnam after stabilising in the first half of April. Japanese scrap prices have increased.
