South East Asia Steel Markets Report - Week 14 (May 6, 2021)

Read the Kallanish South East Asia Report - Week 19, published 6th May 2021.  This is a weekly subscription report analysing production, flats, longs, semis, and raw materials for the region.  Additionally, the production section includes brand new data series monitoring hot metal production activity in the region at the blast furnace level.

  • Production: Blast furnaces across Southeast Asian saw activity fairly steady last week with the exception of Posco Krakatau.
  • Flats: The Vietnamese hot rolled coil import market was quiet at the end of last week.
  • Longs: East Asian long product import markets are muted after China announced the end of tax rebates effective May.
  • Semis: The billet import market in Southeast Asia continues to rally. Rising scrap and the removal of China's 2% import duty on billet has raised expectations that regional prices may rise further.
  • Raw Materials: The ferrous scrap import market was relatively stable in Vietnam last week. Japanese H2 offer prices are prevailing at $465-475/tonne cfr Phu My, southern Vietnam, importing sources say.
