Whyalla nears blast furnace restart following repairs
Liberty Steel's Whyalla Steelworks in South Australia is expected to resume blast furnace production later this week, ending around two months of production suspension to carry out repairs.
The halted production capacity is 1.2 million tonnes/year of hot metal, Kallanish notes.
According to Whyalla Steelworks managing director Tony Swiericzuk, the repairs to the blast furnace's external shell were "safely completed ahead of our original schedule"…
