USS might idle Granite City works
US Steel may be idling its Granite City facility, Kallanish learns from a company statement.
About 2,000 employees at the 2.8 million short tons/year flat-rolled facility have been notified of the possible idling, which US Steel says is “… temporary” and “… a result of continued challenging global market conditions including fluctuating oil prices, reduced rig counts, depressed steel prices and unfairly traded imports.”
US Steel also notes that Granite City is the main skelp supplier for the company’s Lone Star Tubular Operations in Lone Star, Texas, which supplies ERW pipe to the energy industry.
