US steel production slips
US raw steel production is down both week on week and year on year, Kallanish learns from the American Iron and Steel Institute.
Production stands at 1.605 million short tons at 68.6% capability utilisation, down -1.7% from the previous week, when capability utilisation was 69.8%, and down -4.9% from last year, when utilisation was 70.5%.
The Great Lakes region led production with 636,000 st, followed by the South at 541,000 st and the Northeast at 201,000 st. The Midwest produced 162,000 st, while the West produced 65,000 st.
Year-to-date, production stands at 65.782m st at 72.1% capability utilisation, down -1.4% from last year’s reading at 72.1% utilisation.
