US raw steel production rises again
US raw steel capacity rose again on-week but remains down on-year, Kallanish learns from the American Iron and Steel Institute.
US raw steel production stands at 1.412 million short tons at 63% capability utilisation, up 2.5% from the previous week, when utilisation was 61.5%, but down 23.3% from the equivalent week last year, when utilisation was 79.1%.
Production in the South reached 567,000 st, while production in the Great Lakes reached 482,000 st and production in the Midwest reached 157,000 st. Production in the Northeast was 134,000 st, while production in the West was 72,000 st.
Year-to-date production stands at 50.245m st at 65.8% utilisation, down -20.3% from last year, when utilisation was 80.7%.
