Turkey’s April scrap imports fail to sustain recovery
Following their March recovery, Turkish scrap imports fell in April. They declined 19.5% on-year to 1.74 million tonnes, according to Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK) data monitored by Kallanish. They were up from 1.23mt in February but down from 2.35mt in March.
Over 99%, or 1.735mt, of the April imports were obsolete scrap. The average price of this scrap was $441/tonne, versus $548/t in April 2022 and $426/t in March 2023.
