Tata UK closes one BF, keeps other running
Tata Steel has begun the wind-down of blast furnace no.5 at Port Talbot, with its final iron to be produced at the end of the week. It has halted the shutdown of BF4, however, after receiving confirmation from Unite that the union has suspended planned strike action.
The steelmaker said last week it would close both BFs, if the strike took place, due to concerns over unsafe operation.
