Swedish scrap prices are remaining unchanged for August having fallen in the previous two adjustments, Kallanish learns from the local scrap association Järnbruksförnödenheter AB (JBF).

Each month, JBF publishes the applicable price changes for Swedish scrap grade No. 11, which is offered to the supplier contracted for supplies during the following month. The August assessment is that prices will remain flat. This follows a decrease of SEK 50/tonne ($5.39/t) for July and another fall of SEK 150/t signalled in mid-June.

Swedish grade No11 scrap is equivalent to old scrap grade HMS1 or E3 in European steel scrap specifications.

This is the first time since January and therefore only the second time this year so far that the scrap price signalled by Järnbruksförnödenheter has remained unmoved.

The Swedish scrap market is usually among the first ones in Europe to settle monthly contracts, giving an early indicator for future movements across Europe. Sweden is a large exporter of scrap to Europe as well as to Turkey.
