Steel futures tumble and industrial margins narrow
Chinese steel futures prices fell sharply on Tuesday amid expectations of continuing oversupply in the coming month. Industrial profit margins, meanwhile, are already being squeezed, Kallanish notes.
On the Shanghai Futures Exchange the January 2020 rebar contract closed CNY 91/tonne lower than Monday at CNY 3,281/t ($459/t), while the October hot rolled coil contract closed down CNY 99/t at CNY 3,561/t.
