Shanxi Meijin closes coking plant
Shanxi Meijin Coking Company, located in Qingxu County of Shanxi Province, has closed. This also means that Taiyuan City has completed its 2020 goal of shutting down backward production capacity in the coking industry, Kallanish notes.
According to the public report, Meijin Coking closed 800,000 tonnes/year of coking capacity at its Qingxu Plant. The company is switching its production base to Inner Mongolia, where there are fewer restrictions. The new plant plans to have capacity to produce 5 million tonnes/year of coke by the end of 2022. The production equipment includes eight coke ovens with a carbonisation chamber height of 6.25 meters.
The Taiyuan Bureau of Industry and Information Technology's goal this year is to close all coke ovens with a carbonisation chamber height of 4.3m and below by the end of October. This involves nine companies in total. Up to now, Taiyuan Gangyuan Coking and Meijin Coking have been closed, reducing a total of 1.4 million t/y of coke production capacity.
