Russian, Belarus wire rod exports slow
Subdued demand for long steel in foreign markets amid the strengthening rouble and difficulties with receiving payments have slowed export activity at Russian and Belarus wire rod suppliers, Kallanish notes from market participants.
The rouble firmed to 89.56 per dollar on Wednesday, compared to 90.40:$1 a week earlier, thereby discouraging exports. This also created additional burden from the export duty linked to exchange rates.
