Peugeot Citroën ramps up car production in Spain
French car-maker PSA Peugeot Citroën (PSA) has increased its output at its assembly plant in Vigo, Northern Spain by 7% in 2015 compared to last year, a source close to the company tells Kallanish.
The Vigo plant will finish the year with over 407,000 units produced, almost 1,800 units/day. This is part of a strategic plan by which the company is aiming to pass the level of 1.8 million units produced in Europe in 2015. It represents an effort by PSA to respond to increasing European car demand, Kallanish notes.
The Vigo plant employs around 7,000 workers and exports most of its production to other European countries.
The hike in production volumes in Europe is part of the 2014-2018 ‘Back in the Race’ plan presented by chairman Carlos Tavares, a roadmap designed to accelerate the group's recovery, as reported.
