Posco decommissions No.1 blast furnace
South Korean steel producer Posco closed its first blast furnace on 29 December. This had been in operation for 48 years and 6 months.
This will cause a production loss of about 1.3 million tonnes/year for the iron plant, Kallanish notes. The No.1 blast furnace commissioned on 9 June 1973 marked South Korea's first production of pig iron.
