Chinas new environmental law requires up to $18 billion investment from steelmakers
No Chinese steelmaker is currently prepared for the new environmental law which will come into force on 1 January 2015, according to the China Metallurgical Planning and Research Institute (MPI). China’s steelmakers will have to invest Yuan 90-110 billion ($15-18bn) in order to bring all their equipment up to standard, says MPI senior engineer Liu Tao.
