JSW eyes 25mt Gadchiroli plant for $11 billion
JSW chairman Sajjan Jindal says the group plans to invest INR 1 trillion ($11.4 billion) in the next seven to eight years for a mega steel plant with a production capacity of 25 million tonnes/year, Kallanish notes.
The plant will be located in Gadchiroli district, Maharashtra and will manufacture hot rolled coil, Jindal says.
Jindal made the announcement at the “Advantage Vidarbha” conclave in Nagpur on Friday, in the presence of Chief Minister of Maharashtra Devendra Fadnavis and the Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways of India, Nitin Gadkari.
Jindal says the mega steel plant in Gadchiroli has been a “dream” of Fadnavis, Gadkari and his. He notes it “will not only be the biggest factory in the world but will also be the most beautiful and environment-friendly steel plant”.
The location is logistically well connected as it is central for the rest of the country, he adds. Due to its railway connectivity, material can be sent north, east, south and west, and to the rest of India from this location, he continues.
The first phase of investment will take four years, while the entire investment will need seven to eight years, Jindal concludes.
