Iran's Arvand Kaveh Steel commissions rebar mill
Arvand Kaveh Steel Company (AKS) has been commissioned with the launch of a 600,000 tonnes/year capacity rebar mill, Kallanish learns from the Iranian Steel Producers’ Association.
The rolling mill is the first stage of the AKS steelworks, which was incorporated in Khorramshahr in 2012. It will be followed by a 1.7 million t/y direct reduced iron plant and 2m t/y electric arc furnace-based crude steelmaking plant.
AKS is part of the Kaveh-Pars Mining Industries Development Company that also includes South Kaveh Steel (SKS) and East Kaveh Steel. SKS is a 1.2m t/y EAF-based merchant 130-200mm square billet plant in Bandar Abbas. It produced 545,000t of billet in the eight months through 21 November, of which it exported 463,000t. The firm plans to double capacity to 2.4m t/y in 2019.
