Indian scrap imports plunge amid bearish steel demand
Low demand for steel in the domestic market, coupled with festive holidays in December, has led to a drop in Indian scrap imports. Scrap imports plunged 23.26% on-year to 466,973 tonnes in December, against 608,506t a year earlier.
Indian scrap imports also dropped 6.56% on-year in April-December to 3.69 million tonnes, according to Indian commerce ministry provisional data. In calendar year 2021, the nation imported 5.13mt of scrap, down by 6.27%.
