German steel output falls in November
Crude steel production by German mills in November totalled 3.48 million tonnes, showing a -3% dip year-on-year. This follows a 3% increase that was registered in October on the same basis.
For the first eleven months, the country’s crude steel production totalled 39.7m tonnes, and for the full year is expected to be at around last year’s level, Kallanish hears from German steel federation WV Stahl. Capacity utilisation in 2015 so far has reached 88%, compared with a global average of 72%, the federation notes.
More detailed figures for the period up to the end of October show that production via the oxygen route in the first ten months was 2.1% above that in 2014 at 25.4mt. Production via the EAF route dipped meanwhile by -3.1% to 10.8mt.
Rolled products output in the first ten months totalled 31.3mt, an increase of 1.6% year-on-year. Flat products rose by 1.6% to 20.4mt, while long products grew by 2.9% to 10.9mt.
