Evraz supplies rebar for Yakutia coal mine construction
Evraz trading arm Metall Inprom (EMI) has supplied rebar for the construction of the Inaglinsky mining and processing complex (GOK) in Yakutia, the Russian steelmaker says.
GOK Inaglinsky is a large investment project of the Kolmar group of companies for the development of a coal mining cluster in Yakutia, involving the development of the Chulmakanskoye and Denisovskoye deposits.
The first stage of the mine and the processing plant of the Inaglinsky GOK was launched in September 2020. It is scheduled for completion in 2021.
In 2020, EMI delivered more than 2,000 tonnes of rolled products to customers, Kallanish notes. In January, 2,100t of rebar were shipped and supplies are continuing. Rolled metal is used in mine workings for the manufacture of anchoring A20B of various lengths.
“Cooperation with Kolmar is important for us, as it allows us to participate in one of the priority projects for the development of the Far East,” says EMI general director Sergei Sintsov. “We have gained serious experience in the manufacture of quality products and timely deliveries to strategic facilities”.
EMI expects Russian construction steel demand to increase in 2021 by 3-5% on-year, driven by rebar, after its consumption fell last year (see Kallanish passim).
In 2020, parent company Evraz’s crude steel output declined 1.3% on-year to 13.81 million tonnes. Russian output inched up 0.8% to 12.1mt but North America's declined 15.1% to 1.58mt, on oil and gas market turbulence affecting demand.
Consolidated 2020 steel product sales declined 3.1% to 13.1mt, with sales of semis rising 6.1% to 6.18mt on higher slab and billet volumes in export markets.
Last year’s revenue declined 18.1% to $9.75 billion.
