European import/export scrap prices decline
Scrap import contract prices from France and Germany into Italy and Spain have declined month-on-month by €15/tonne ($17.6/t) on average. Some grades dipped by €10/t while others fell €20, depending on quality, sources in the market tell Kallanish.
Compared to July and before the August summer break, sales volumes have also declined as Italian mills ordered lower tonnages. The current price weakness mirrors the fall in Turkish and European scrap values and uncertainty in finished product markets, traders explain.
Imported mixed quality new arisings (E8) from France and Germany are selling to Italian mills in September at €285-295/t delivered, down from €310-315/t delivered in August.
Import and export scrap prices between European countries are forecast to remain stable in October, sources say.
