Egypt drives Africa's five-month crude steel production rise
Egypt has led Africa's crude steel output increase in the first five months of 2024.
From January to May, the total crude steel production of the six African countries reporting to worldsteel increased by 5.4% year-on-year to 9.18 million tonnes from 8.7mt in the same period in 2023. Egypt saw a significant surge of 13.3% on-year, reaching 4.48mt compared with 3.95mt a year earlier, notes Kallanish.
