MMK uses syngas to fuel new blast furnace
Russian steelmaker MMK will install decarbonisation technology during the construction of blast furnace No.11 after it signed an agreement with SMS Group, Kallanish notes.
This will increase the efficiency of MMK's technological processes by using syngas, a combination of hydrogen and carbon monoxide. This replaces a significant part of solid carbon fuel in the blast furnace process and creates the potential to move towards decarbonisation.
