Danieli to begin shipping Nucor plate mill equipment
Italian equipment supplier Danieli will begin shipping parts for Nucor’s new $1.7 billion plate mill in Brandenburg, Kentucky, by the end of November.
The groundbreaking for the 1.2 million short/year facility took place on 23 October. It is slated to come online in 2022, Kallanish understands.
The first equipment shipment will include a large-size tilting platform and the lower shells of the facility’s electric arc furnace. The furnace is being manufactured in Danieli Thailand’s workshop.
Once complete, the Brandenburg will be able to produce plates ranging from 3/16-inch to 14 inches in thickness - or 97% of the plate products needed for the US market, Nucor estimates.
