
Colombia's iron ore, steel exports decline in January
Colombia's iron ore and steel exports fell month-on-month but were up year-on-year in January, Kallanish notes. Coil imports were higher.
According to local statistics institute Departamento Administrativo Nacional de Estadística (DANE) data, January’s steel and iron ore exports amounted to 19,474 tonnes, a decline of 30.3% compared with 27,949t in December. Shipments, however, were 19.4% higher than in the corresponding month of 2024.
The fob value of these shipments was $51.3 million, versus $48.4m in January 2024.
Colombia’s January rolled steel imports jumped to 221,115t, from 172,788t in December, and were 64.6% higher y-o-y. These represented almost 85.6% of the total 258,363t of steel and base metal arrivals in the country during the first month of 2025.
The cif value of rolled steel entries was $178.1m in January, 23.8% greater on-year, the institute confirms.
