Chinese rebar gains on policy support
Chinese construction steel prices soared last week on policy stimulus, but then a lull in demand sent the market into decline.
In Shanghai on Friday afternoon, 20mm HRB400 rebar was trading at CNY 3,850-3,870/tonne ($536-539/t), up CNY 40/t on-week, Kallanish assesses. The May 2024 rebar contract on the Shanghai Futures Exchange closed at CNY 3,973/t, up CNY 6/t compared with Thursday and CNY 58/t higher from the previous Friday.
