Brazil sees scrap export shipments fall again
Brazilian ferrous scrap exports decreased for an eleventh consecutive month in September, according to Brazilian Ministry of Development, Industry and Foreign Trade (Mdic) data monitored by Kallanish.
Exports of scrap were 30,360 tonnes in September, or -56.5% less compared to 69,710t in the same period of 2017, but 19.7% higher than those in August. In the nine-month period these totalled 267,875t, -43.7% less y-o-y.
In September scrap shipments abroad had a fob value of $21.8 million, a fall of -3.3% compared to the same month of last year. During the first nine months of the year the value of exports fell by -11.4% y-o-y to $125.6m.
The main destination for Brazilian scrap exports in January-September was Bangladesh, which took 31% of shipments. India and Indonesia were the next-largest importers of Brazilian scrap, both with a share of 12%.
