Brazil, Mexico strengthen protection for their steel industry
Brazil and Mexico took an important step to protect their steel industries by announcing new taxes on imported material, Kallanish notes.
Brazil decided to impose quotas on 11 steel tariff fractions and increased the import tax to 25% to be applied when the volumes are exceeded. These were previously between 10.8-12.6%. Four other steel fractions are still being evaluated after showing price variations, which will require further studies.
