BHP, Posco sign agreement on low-carbon steelmaking research
Australian miner BHP has inked a memorandum of understanding with South Korean steelmaker Posco to jointly explore greenhouse gas emissions reduction technologies in integrated steelmaking, Kallanish notes.
They will undertake pilot and plant trials to reduce carbon in the steelmaking process. Potential technologies include improving coke quality, and carbon capture storage and utilisation options to lower carbon intensity in the blast furnace.
