Baosteel Zhanjiang commissions converter, caster
Baosteel's Zhanjiang steelworks successfully hot tested its No.4, 350-tonne converter and No.3 continuous caster on 9 January, Kallanish notes. Both belong to its No.3 blast furnace complex.
The company will see capacity expansion of 3.6 million tonnes/year of slab. The main final products cover high-strength steel and silicon steel.
On the basis of this equipment, Baosteel Zhanjiang is striving to build the largest single steelmaking workshop in China. The ground-breaking ceremony was held on 6 December 2018.
After the commissioning of the whole steelmaking project in July 2021, the steelworks’ capacity will rise to 12.25m t/y of pig iron, 12.528m t/y of liquid steel and 10.81m t/y of finished steel.
