Bangkok Iron and Steel upgrades meltshop
Thailand’s Bangkok Iron and Steel Works (BISW) has successfully commissioned new ladle and degassing furnaces and casters for its EAF meltshop, according to equipment supplier SMS Group. BISW says it can now provide customers with the products they require, Kallanish notes.
The new equipment includes a 60-tonne ladle furnace, a 60t vacuum degasser and a three-strand billet caster producing up to 400,000 tonnes/year of 150mm and 130mm billet. The new equipment will give the steelmaker greater access to special steel markets, it says.
The commissioning also marks the completion of the doubling of the rebar and wire rod maker’s capacity. Its old 200,000 t/y EAF, will no longer operate.
