Austal USA opens Alabama steel shipbuilding facility
Austal USA is celebrating the opening of its steel processing facility in Alabama to support the shipbuilding needs of the US Navy and US Coast Guard.
The location in Mobile includes a 117,000-square-foot manufacturing facility, a 60,000-square-foot stockyard, and a 19,500-square-foot paint facility.
The first three ships to be built at the facility will be two Navajo-class towing, salvage, and rescue ships, Kallanish understands.
