Union Pacific invests in electric battery locomotives

Union Pacific Railroad plans to reduce its greenhouse gas emissions by moving towards the electrification of its locomotives, Kallanish reports. In the largest-yet investment in battery technology by a North American railroad, Union Pacific announced it will purchase 10 FLXdrive battery-electric locomotives from Pittsburgh-based rail technology company Wabtec Corporation.
