Ultium Cells, the joint venture between GM and LG Energy Solution, has decided to expand capacity at its planned Tennessee battery gigafactory by over 40%, Kallanish reports.
The partners have agreed to pump another $275 million into the project that will now run 50 gigawatt-hours of battery cell production. The additional investment also means 400 more jobs for a total of 1,700 and a faster timeframe with start of production in late 2023, the JV says.
