Tesla to increase supercharging stations in Southeast Europe
Tesla plans to increase the number of charging stations for its electric vehicles (EVs) in Southeast Europe, according to the official website of the company.
A new device should be ready by June this year in the Bulgarian capital Sofia. The superfast charging station will be the second in the country, after the first one was opened last year in Plovdiv. It has 4 columns with a capacity of 150 kW.
In parallel with the one in Sofia, Elon Musk’s company will build more charging stations in the region. They will be in the Turkish city of Edirne and in four cities in Romania - Bucharest, Timisoara, Pitesti and Sibiu. Last year, Tesla installed two stations in Serbia and one in Bulgaria.
Tesla continues its expansion in the Balkans, planning to build several more charging stations in Serbia, as well as in Bosnia and Montenegro. The company has already such devices in Croatia and Slovenia, and plans to build dozens more.
Bulgaria is currently not among the countries where Tesla is offering its EVs.
However, as previously reported by Kallanish the country is building 199 charging stations for electric vehicles in the country with funding from the European Union. About 123 of the stations have already been implemented and are functioning. Total investment amounts to BGN 6.4 million ($4m).
The number of EVs in Bulgaria increased in 2020 by 63% on-year to 1,933 units, according to data of the Traffic Police. The newly registered electric cars amounted to 800. The number of hybrid models increased from 2,989 to 11,867 units last year, which is up by 41%.
