Tesla opens its longest supercharger route along the Silk Road
Tesla has opened the longest supercharger route from east to west in China, featuring 27 stations along the historic Silk Road, Kallanish reports.
The iconic project spans across 5,000 kilometres, from Shanghai to China’s western frontier city Horgos. The newly opened superchargers start in the city of Zhoushan, Tesla said on its official China account on Twitter. It’s unclear how the superchargers will be powered in some of the remote locations.
Following on Elon Musk’s announcement in November 2019, Tesla says it’s “looking forward to extending further west to London, forming a modern world ‘Marco Polo’ Supercharger route.” It didn’t provide a timeline for this development.
The carmaker currently has a charging infrastructure network with 25,000 superchargers around the world.
Tesla China reportedly opened on Wednesday its first charging station in the country featuring its own solar system and energy storage equipment. The facility is located in the city of Lhasa, the capital of the Tibet Autonomous Region.
