Rio Tinto begins underground Oyu Tolgoi copper-gold production
Rio Tinto and the government of Mongolia are celebrating the start of underground production at the giant Oyu Tolgoi copper-gold mine in Mongolia, Kallanish reports.
Ore is being processed from Panel Zero in the Hugo North Lift 1 and production will ramp up over the coming years, the mining giant says. A total of 30 drawbells have been blasted in Oyu Tolgoi’s underground mine. The company is using a block cave mining technique.
